6.45 AM

I wake up after pressing snooze three times on my phone alarm. I make myself a cup of coffee, shower, and get ready for the drive to work.

I start my drive to work with my coffee in a tumbler and put on my driving playlist (consisting of super upbeat songs including Material Girl by Saucy Santana). Traffic to the Lutong office was moderate as it is located slightly outside of the center. 20 minutes later, I am on my seat switching on my laptop and monitors. I consider the first 30 minutes of the day as a warm-up time where I’d just greet colleagues passing by good morning and ask how they are.

First meeting of the day! The buyer’s huddle is a quick standing meeting where buyers from different categories share their priorities and also possible hurdles on materials coming into the Lead Buyer. As the turnaround focal, I am responsible for reporting material updates to the engineering and asset team for their maintenance activities. I write down Purchase Order numbers and any change in delivery dates and communicate them to my stakeholders.

I get back to my seat and start checking emails. There are several emails coming in from vendors informing me of delivery statuses of materials and also from the engineering team enquiring about some materials. After replying to some emails, I get down to work on a Technical Evaluation Report for a contract that I am setting up. I take email feedback from my technical stakeholder on whether the bidders have passed the technical selections and write up the justification for passing/failing the bidders and recommend the next steps in the bidder selection.

11.00 AM

By this time, I’ll be messaging other graduates on who would be for lunch and googling places to have lunch in Miri.

Lunchtime! We ended up going to a dim sum place and talked about our different personal favourites for dim sum in the city. Before heading back, we stopped to grab an iced coffee.

1.00 PM

I had an informal catch-up with my manager and briefed her on my workload for the week, some of the contracts that I have been working on, and also updated her on some delays in material deliveries coming in from overseas. The catch-up ended with both of us scurrying off our respective meetings.

1.30 PM

I walk down to the main lobby to greet my contractors and register them at the front desk before bringing them up to the meeting room. It was their 6-monthly Business Performance Review and we discussed some of the KPIs and any issues surrounding the operationalisation of the contract. I highlighted the feedback given from some stakeholders that the contractor takes longer than the agreed service level agreement (SLA) to process requests and was given assurance that they will look into it and improve performance. We ended the meeting by going to the cafeteria and grabbing coffee (this is probably my third coffee of the day?).

3.00 PM

After a 15-minute break checking my social media, I continued to work on my reports and replied to more emails that came during the day. My manager sent me some feedback as well on one of the reports that I was due to submit to the contract board so I decided to put that as a priority before the end of the day.

5.00 PM

I left work and headed straight to the spin studio for a spin class, it was a great way to end the day, and grabbed takeaway dinner on the way home.

6.30 PM

Got back home, showered, ate dinner, and watched videos of cute puppies on Instagram.

8.30 PM

Realising that I have spent almost an hour watching videos of cute dogs on Instagram, I started revision for my Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) papers that I am sitting in a month’s time.

9.30 PM

I get ready for bed, and before bed, I spend some more time watching cute puppies online with better peace of mind as I have done some revision beforehand.
